Let’s Make Sure You are Prepared
….ForYour Headshots
What to Think About.
Consider your industry, style, and the message you want to convey to your clients when preparing for your head shot and selecting your location and attire.
Dynamic
You want to try to make headshots as dynamic as possible. Experiment with different poses and expressions to convey energy and vitality.
Personality
Utilize your headshots to communicate your personality and that of your business. Think about how you and your team work and convey that through your images.
Style
Consider your communication and business style when planning your headshot session. Dress in a way that reflects your authentic self and aligns with your brand. If you never wear a suit, don’t wear one for your head shot.
Usage
Determine where your headshots will be used and communicate this to your photographer. If updating your website, provide insight into the style and layout of the site to ensure your headshots complement the overall aesthetic.
HOW TO PREPARE + WHAT TO WEAR
Reflect Your Business: In Dress + Location
Your wardrobe should reflect your business and be consistent with how you present to clients. Whether you opt for a casual or formal look depends on your brand and industry.
Additionally, consider your location and ensure your attire complements it.
How to Dress
Choose clothes that are well-fitting and allow you to move freely without restriction.
Opt for solid colors or subtle patterns as they photograph best.
Avoid bold stripes, large logos, or busy patterns that may distract from your face.
Keep accessories simple and complementary to your outfit to avoid distraction.
You are welcome to bring a few outfit options and we can fit as many outfits into our time together as possible.
Consider whether professional hair and makeup align with your desired look.
It is key that you feel confident and comfortable in what you wear.
If unsure, seek advice from a stylist, friend, or photographer before the session.
I am available to discuss outfits prior to the session as well
If you need style help I suggest reaching out to a stylist like, Jessica Grabler
If you would like to rent clothes for your session, consider using a service like, Rent The Runway
Professional Hair and Makeup
While the camera may capture makeup differently, aim to look and feel like yourself in the images. Many individuals feel confident with professionally styled hair, so it's worth considering before your session.
Some of my clients like to use Glamsquad to book hair and make-up artists as it is easy when you are in another city or need both hair and make-up done quickly in a specific location. DC based make-up artists Stacy and Christin are also one's I suggest clients use in DC and in NYC my rockstar friend Alex who is based in NY State but travels for clients as well.
Schedule any haircuts or color treatments a few days before your session for a natural look.
Ensure your nails are clean and groomed, as they may be visible in close-up shots.
Group Consistency
For group or full office headshots, strive for consistency across personnel to maintain a cohesive look on your website.
Coordinate attire and grooming to ensure a unified appearance.
PREPARING YOURSELF
Rest and Hydration
Aim to get plenty of rest the night before your session to minimize under-eye bags and fatigue.
Stay hydrated in the days leading up to your session for a healthy, glowing complexion.

Practice different facial expressions and poses in front of a mirror to discover your most flattering angles.
Relax and be yourself during the session; natural expressions often yield the best results.
