………..what is your industry + style + what are you communicating to your clients..? This should inform you location + what you wear….

Location, Location, Location

Your Office / Home

  • “Your Office” has several meanings at this point!

  • Needs to have good natural light

  • Needs to have enough space - this usually means one office with good light or a conference room with good light

  • Can use the outside of the office building or the lobby as well

  • Good for when you have a lot of employees needing headshots!

Georgetown / City Locations

  • Versatile

  • Can customize for your industry / brand

  • Many back drops

  • Alley’s provide for brick, stone, and greenery

 Katzen Art Center

  • Versatile

  • Easy Parking

  • Inside and outside options

HOW TO PREPARE + WHAT TO WEAR

  • What you wear should reflect your business + be consistent with how you present to clients. How casual/formal you wish to be is dependent on your brand and industry. It is also dependent on location. Your wardrobe should also reflect your location. This is not the time to take a leap into a different style. What you wear should be a complete reflection of you and who your client will be working with. Show who you are, that is who they are buying.

  • Clothes should be well-fitting, not restrictive. You should feel GOOD about what you are wearing. You should be able to move freely without restriction. Always consult with a stylist, friend, or photographer prior to the session(s) to review your options If you are in doubt.

  • To do or not to do professional hair + make-up. The most important thing to think about here is that you want to look (and feel) like yourself in the images. Now, the camera doesn't show make-up the same way your eyes see it, make-up is much less subtle to the camera, however, you want to feel like yourself, you want to look like yourself and you want to be comfortable. A lot people feel amazing with professionally done hair, so this is a great thing to do before you have your portrait taken!

  • For groups / full office headshots, try for some consistency across your personnel so that your website will be consistent!

About Claire….

headshots washington dc

For over 25 years I have been involved in both the photography and business worlds. My initial thrilling photographic endeavor was as an intern at the Christian Science Monitor, photographing President Clinton and other White House events. Having my work published in the international publication at such a young age was unique and motivating.

Prior to becoming a full time photographer and visual strategist, I worked in the financial world for a hedge fund, and then for two prominent public financial companies, advising executives on how to communicate with investors. For 5 years I worked for CapitalSource (NYSE: CSE), during both flourishing years and the downturn of 2008. She later moved on to oversee the IPO of Walker & Dunlop (NYSE: WD) and stayed on board playing an instrumental role in the stock's 5-year movement from IPO price of $10 to over $50.

I am a mother of three amazing children who are growing at a speed too fast for me! I am a lover of nature, adventure, and food. I could talk business strategy all day and love meeting entrepreneurs and hearing their stories.

I feel fortunate to live and work as an entrepreneur, a lifestyle I have always dreamed of. This enables me to bring together my fascination with entrepreneurial endeavors and love of, passion for, and talent in photography to create meaningful work for my entrepreneurial clients. This unique blend of business knowledge and artistry enables me to stand out, not just as a photographer, but as a business and brand resource.
